Today I am delighted to share with you a bohemian wedding that was celebrated in Arroyo Grande, California, during the fourth lunar crescent, on July 18. Miki and Sam's wedding was a magical, bohemian and ritualistic event that was celebrated with the help of friends and family. If you continue reading you will see how they organized their beautiful wedding and you will read the advice of the bride that will make you think about your wedding from another perspective
Miki and Sam met each other
at an Ecstatic Dance event, a kind of meditative dance that helps improve awareness and freedom of expression, in Santa Cruz, through a mutual friend. This super couple deeply values mindfulness, "thinking outside the box," art, education, nature, and travel. They lean towards a healthy and bohemian lifestyle. When these soul mates met, they realized that they get along super well! They were destined to start a family and it all happened pretty quickly.
Less than a year later, they found out that they would be parents to a girl! The Proposal
After the birth of their beautiful daughter, Miki and Sam were so full of love
that the wedding proposal happened naturally. Miki explains to me, "The three of us were relaxing one afternoon and I imagined that at that moment Sam was about to propose to me. He did it naturally, without a ring or anything spectacular, but it was the perfect moment to get engaged." The wedding style
The proposal was in February and the couple decided to marry on July 18 in the beautiful garden in Arroyo Grande, California. They chose this day because the moon was in the first quarter, which is considered very positive for new beginnings.
Sam and Miki wanted a small wedding with close friends and family. They also wanted the wedding to have meaning for the guests and allow them to have a transformational experience together with the bride and groom.
" We asked a friend of ours, who is a Kundalini yoga teacher and acupuncturist, to officiate the ceremony
. She is a wonderful, powerful woman and a joyful healer," the bride tells me. Inspiration
Sam and Miki wanted to celebrate regeneration on their wedding day. They decided that they would both wear white and encouraged their guests to wear white or very light colored dresses. The couple was lucky to have many volunteer friends who helped with the decorations, cooking the food, preparing the rituals for the wedding, and helping with everything. "It was an extraordinary Do It Yourself wedding!
Our friends really went out of their way for us, and it turned out so beautiful!" "We did a protection ritual with the four elements of nature during the ceremony. Everything, nature and humanity, conspired to make it perfect , even though we hadn't even rehearsed how we were going to do it." Sam and Miki have many artist and creative friends and all of them really wanted to live in the moment and improvise
. This made the wedding very exciting and super special. Favorite details
Miki tells me that one of her favorite details is the soundtrack they had: Enya, Mussorgsky, and some really nice yoga mantras. Sam's sister is a folk musician and sang a beautiful version of Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
at the end of the ritual where one of the bridesmaids washed the feet of the bride and groom. For this part of the ritual, someone brought her baby, Leia, to sit on top of the bride. The dress
"I wanted a dress that had a natural and timeless elegance. I was also interested in staying within the budget that I had set for myself in order to plan wisely for the future of our family. The Mimètik Bcn dress is perfect and I am excited because it allows me different styles and I can wear it after the wedding on special occasions without it showing that it's the same dress.
I was very comfortable throughout the wedding and it's super easy to move around in the dress, which is very important to me," says Miki. Advice for brides "The advice I would give to new brides is that it is much more important to follow your heart when you are planning your wedding than it is to follow a guide to planning weddings . A guide can be very helpful in reminding you of the possibilities that exist, but it is much
It is better to do your magical ritual in which you and your partner feel positively transformed. A wedding, in essence, is a transforming experience for the soul. It does not have to be a giant, luxurious and expensive event to be truly a magical day. Also, when you listen to the advice of your family and friends, understand their needs but, in the end, it is your day, and it has to be perfect for you and your partner.Try not to stress yourself trying to make everyone happy or trying to impress someone. And don't worry about all the details being perfect. Some things won't turn out the way you expected, but this is precisely what makes life interesting... imperfections. In the end, they are part of perfection. Breathe and enjoy! Being a bride is our opportunity to show our elegance!"
I think there is nothing more to add to these tips that Miki has shared with us. You already know that I adore bohemian life and authentic people. When I find myself in front of a couple like Sam and Miki who have the same vision of life and love, I get emotional. Because they had their magical day, their bohemian wedding representing who they are in essence, Leía's charming parents <3 Thank you very much to the bride and groom for sharing their love with us and thank you very much for reading me! Sees it,
