What inspired us for our New Collection 24?

Hello, my name is Mireia Solsona and apart from having my own bridal gown brand (Mimètik), I got married this year... So, of course, this New Collection is a reflection of my creative process for the different stunning dresses I wore on my wedding day.

I'll keep you posted...

Can you believe I've been asked several times if I'm going to make my own wedding dress? Pardon me?

No, I'll buy it at Pronovias, don't mess with me.

Sorry.

"Oh no, I was saying it because maybe it's a lot of pressure and it makes you feel uneasy and all that."

Of course it's a lot of pressure! And of course it makes me nervous! That's normal, I guess. I created Mimètik Bcn and I've made thousands of wedding dresses for women all over the world. But I'm only human, and making my own, well, of course, was a challenge.

Of course it was. But I got a really good grade, I have to say. A+, I'd say. Because the dress, or rather, the dresses, were absolutely stunning. And I felt like the most spectacular woman in the world. Which is, obviously, what I want for you too. Because if you aspire to feel like that, you'll achieve it, believe me. It's a matter of attitude. And of choosing your dress well, of course.

So, for a year I dedicated myself to studying a lot of styles, looking at books on fashion history, and reviewing iconic wedding dresses. I wanted to understand what kind of bride I wanted to be. Not because I believe in conventions, nor because I'm over 40, I wanted to clearly identify with what I wanted to convey.

Then, when I created the 2023 bridal collection, which is spectacular and full of lace that I absolutely love, I tried on all the designs, with every possible combination. I had no idea which one I liked best! Obviously, I wanted to have a new design made for myself, but I needed to start with an idea.

So, a year before the wedding, during a visit with a trusted salesperson, when he was showing me the fabrics he had, he pulled out one that impressed me. An image immediately flashed into my mind. And one word:

Bali.

I told her to move the fabric aside because I wanted to see it again at the end of the meeting, to see if it could fit with that vision that had just crossed my mind.

Let me tell you where this Bali thing comes from. In 2011, I spent a month traveling through Indonesia, and I ended my trip with a few days in Bali. I loved the traditional Balinese women's dress. It's gorgeous! And made of lace, with sheer details, it really resonates with me. Anyway, I went to a tailor near my hotel and had two custom-made lace jackets made, following this traditional pattern. I didn't change anything about the traditional pattern, I didn't alter a thing, I just chose the type of lace and the color.

You can't imagine how many times I've worn these lace jackets, they look gorgeous.

Returning to my atelier and my vision for my wedding dress, I imagined a traditional Balinese dress with that lace fabric with silver thread and rhinestone flowers, very oriental. And I saw it clearly.

So I asked him for 10 meters to do my tests.

10 meters? That's a very expensive fabric, you know?

I know, but it's for a very important event.

We spent 6 months testing, changing patterns, adding, removing, adjusting, until finally we polished it so much that it ended up being this marvel.

Obviously it's not the same as the traditional Balinese dress, but it was my starting point, my vision, my inspiration.

Which one is yours?
